I'm not a fan of Markup as code - it leads to a lot of issues at high complexity I think. Remember the days that Java frameworks were replacing everything with big long yamls? made it really hard for your IDE to have your back. of course, to each their own - saltstack was created for a reason and you probably fit the usecase more than me.
